Ive been runing royal purple synthetic.5w30 in my 94 gl with a 3.0l vulcan for over 5yrs now and the motor is as healthy as day one. No oil consumptions easy startups even in -40 all winter. Now i do wanna continue to use the same oil in my 93 3.2 atx. Any input?.

RP is costly but not that great a lubricant. I used RP for 2 consecutive oil changes and will never use it again. My engine ran notably rougher, and the viscosity is also thicker than what they claim, as I ran it in my Hemi with MDS (shuts down 4 cyl) and it ran much rougher in 4 cyl mode. As soon as I changed the oil out, it ran great again, revved quicker and smoother. RP adds Molybdenum disulfide to their oil as a lubricant, which can breakdown over time. I am running Amsoil in all my vehicles, crank case, gear box, and diff fluids.

My 3.0l vulcan ran sooo smooth in rp. And i dont find it that costly for. Synthetic i ran motocraft oil at first and did the changes every 5000kms (family discount on oil n filter sith ford so.) and then i started with rp change every 10000ks so for twice the cost i got twice the mileage. And rp still looks new at 10k i beleive it says its good for 12k. My car never burned or leaked a drop. And winter startups and warm up were easy as summer time.

the key question on the SHO regarding synthetic oil is how much it leaks. as you likely know, the synthetics tend to leak more than the conventional oils, so if your SHO is typical and has some oil leaks, adding oil to it during the course of the oci will likely make it not affordable.

I have used Mobil1 and done 10k miles oci with no adverse effects, and Blackstone reported that I could have run that longer had I wanted to. RP and Amsoil claim even longer oci are achievable, although I have never used either. 10k km is not a very extended oci - you could run Motorcraft semi-synthetic that long, for half the money.

Motorcraft is repackaged oil from Conoco-Phillips IIRC, a good quality oil you cannot go wrong with, but not tops. Amsoil is a very highly rated lubricant with up to 15k between oil changes. I put about 13k / year on the OD, do one oil change per year. I would not run RP for any long intervals, as possible breakdown of their MoS2 molecules, i.e. crystalline structure breakdown could result. Nobody else uses MoS2 in motor oil for good reason, and it is not because it is patent protected.

Even if i only put 13k a year on a vehicle i still do oil every 6months regardless due to possible moisture. Personnally and even if they claim 10k or 15k i never go more then 8 to 10k personnally. As oil is cheap maintenance. I ran amsoil2 stroke in my sled once and only once as it blew up that day due to oil issues... Coulda been coincidental but now have doubts to use it lol. I know different altogether from a sho motor but..maybe il get the ford synthetic equivalents
