So, I just got off the phone with my local mechanic, and he is telling me, word for word, "The rod of the runner control is bent, this is why it is 'stuck open'".

Looking at diagrams of how this works, is there any possible why, or room for that matter, for this thing to be bent? I just don't see how.

I want to wire this bad boys open anyways, so it's not a big deal really, but it's still comforting knowing how they can be bent open, and how they even got that way in the first place.

Thanks.

Yes, the butterfly valve's (2ndaries).

I'm not sure what they mean, I just don't see how they can be bent. Doesn't seem like there would be enough room. So, when I get it back tonight, I'm gonna take a looksy and see if they are just stupid, or speaking truth.

Right now, I don't have pictures, sorry.

Ya, that's what I did :D I had to "pry" them open. The front bank is fine, it's just the rear bank.

While prying them open, I bent the metal. But, like you said, "who cares" :D

****** me off after all this, they stole my gaskets as well. I gave them $250 worth of gaskets to install, and they didn't. (2x UIM, 2x LIM, 1x Surge tank)

If they were gummed up that bad I would pull the upper intake and make sure all 8 are open, the shafts are two piece held together in the center with a spring clip. You can bend the clip only opening 2 of the throttle plates if you force it. follow link for a pic.

If these are the morons that you paid to "clean" your intake, then they are probably the ones who bent it.

Well, I don't think they bent it, considering they've been this way since I had the car, from what I know.... I could be wrong.

But you know, Ford Dealerships, if you try to argue with them, you better have proof to back it up, or else they will say it was like that when you came in :(

@Midnight
Thanks for the pic, that really helps!! I didn't know there was a spring in the middle. Now I'm really wondering what is going on.

If you gut the LIM it will remove 3 sq" of restriction directly in the air flow.

UPDATE:

Well, it shows that if you bitch at your Ford Dealership long enough, they will actually do the work you wanted them to do in the first place.

The dealership I brought my car to is 11 miles from my house, 1 way, so 22 miles to and back. I had to drive there 5 times to get them to fix what I wanted them to fix in the first place: Clean carbon from Upper and Lower intakes and replace rear spark plugs.

Today I got it back, checked it all out, and it's actually CLEAN!! And, they replaced the gaskets I originally gave them, go figure.
