There is a cable that runs to the alternator on the right (drivers side). It has an eyelet connector. Check the connector, most likely it is broken and during acceleration, when the motor moves so does this cable away from the alternator, thus giving you the light. I've had to replace mine twice in 9 years.

I would say that yes if the above post doesn't work the fact that the light comes on at a stop either means your idle rpms are too low, or your alternator is no longer kicking out the juice it should be at idle. It should be replaced or at least tested for proper output. Best of luck to ya!

Definitely alternator. I had a problem with the battery light coming on when I hit high RPM's, then one day it puked on me and left me sitting along the road. Alternator would be my guess as well.

Dealer!!??

Unless you don't have the tools to do it this is a pretty simple DIY project, but I don't know your current situation. At least you know exactly what the problem is now.

Don't take this the wrong way, but... how do you own a SHO and not do any of your own work? I mean changing an alternator is right up there with changing a tire. Cancel some of that free time, go buy a cheap set of tools, and change the alternator. There's nothing like bonding time with the SHO.

Your idle is messed up because you disconnected the battery and didnt reset the idle per procedure. Search term "idle reset"

the alternator may have been junk, but I'm for the simple things first and would look at the eyelet connector on the right side of the alternator to make sure its clean, tight, and unbroken. I would also look at the condition of the cables going to the alt. Make sure they arent corroded inside.

I second that the idle is crazy because of the shops lack knowledge. You just need to do an idle relearn. Search on it, there are tons of threads.

I also second learing some about the car. Buy a manual on the car. Read through it. You will lose some of the anxioty ( sp? ) that you have. The car has a big scary intake, but after that. It is just a 3.0 Not bad to work on at all.

Out in front!
Did yopu fully charge the batt. before hooking up the new alt. The alt. senses how much output to make from the batt. It is possible to ruin a new alt. by not supplying proper volts.
