Battery light flickering... who's the culprit?

It gets pretty hot pretty quick, yeah. All that magnetic inductance creates a bit of heat.

I just had the same issue with my 1989...The alternator WAS bad.

I might as well update this thread if anyone finds it by searching. The alternator was bad. However when the rebuilder tested it they couldn't make it fail. Soon after it started putting out 18.8V and at that point it was pretty obvious.

Sound to me like the tps aor the iac is bad I've had a few do that to me the lights dim when the engine bogs sounds like an idleing issue
