On my way to work last week, my battery light started to flicker on and off. That same afternoon (gets dark early), my battery light was steadily 'lit' and my lights started to dim before I finally arrived at my home destination. Because of previous diagnosis that it could be an alternator problem after doing a 'search' on the topic, I decided to purchase an alternator from Advance Auto with a lifetime replacement. It cost me a little over a hundred dollars for the part. Replacing the part was straightforward and I just had to unbolt one pulley to be able to take out the alternator. In fact, removing the battery tray took longer than the actual alternator. After 153,000 + miles, charging was up to par once again.

Thanks again SHO Forum. Happy Holidays to all.

Good job on the research to get the job done right the first time. For anyone finding this topic, the problem that causes the battery light to illluminate is that the battery is not being charged. A low current output from the alternator is the first thing to check. With the engine idling, the voltage at the battery terminals should be more than 12 volts.
