Basic electrical question...

I'm installing my new blazertech 2600 fogs tomorrow and was considering wiring them to run off both the factory switch and the remote.

Because I only know how to connect wires, not necessarily anything about electricity here's my question.

If the foglights are already on through the remote and I press the dash button, too, will having both power sources sending electricity to the lamps cause an overload? If so, what's the best way to accomplish the ability to use both the remote and the factory switch?

Or do I just have to face the facts, decide which way I want it and wire it only one way?

The lamps of today generally draw more electricity than the stockers. I would highly suggest staying away from using the existing wiring. Not only that but the older wiring is generally not in the best shape, especially in the northern states. If you overload the wires then you're asking for troubles.

If I were you I would use the wiring that comes with the new lamps and perhaps run it to the stock switch versus tapping into the old wiring.

what you'll do is most likely blow the bulb, the bulb in this case is your load, it is what is being powered, also it is like a fuse, so too much juice is just going to keep frying it. Okay, what exactly is the remote for? Is it to turn it on at the wheel or something? I dunno what it is! I would actually put it in series with the factory switch. That way you could turn the factory switch on, and hit the remote and have it come on, or if the remote is on, you could hit the switch and **** the whole thing. That is what I would do. You would be arming the remote when you **** the button in. as far as them both working.

Another way is to tap into the same wires at the fusebox and just run identical (sorry I feel a little fried I was "glassing" my mustang midconsole tonight trying to get it done, and I feel as though I have lost some brain cells :jpshakeh: ) parallel to the other wires, hooking into the lights, that way you could use either or. Make sure to put a fuse in series or inline of the new positive wire.

You know you asked what would happen, I think maybe instead of blowing bulbs it might actually just blow a fuse if it was configured like I just said, it would pull to much from the fusebox and pop the fuse.

No, a 12V load will not draw more than 12V if it has two 12V power sources.

I would use the existing wire to control a relay and run new wire for the load side of the relay, with a fuse of course.

BlazerTech 2600's

I swapped out the oem fog lights on my 93 with the
BlazerTech 2600's....They still look stock, but they put
out some awesome light...
Huge Improvement!!! (you see every dimple in the road)
I spliced into the original wiring 6 inches from the harness
plug, and they operate just like factory.

didn't use the remote control, gave it to a friend to use

if the factory wiring is not complete crap i would use it . generally fog lights use 55watts per side making the amperage draw about 9.166 so depending on what size fuse the factory fogs use you would probably be ok if remember correctly the factory fogs are 35w each meaning they pull about 5.833 amps. thats a difference in 3.33 amps ..so you might can get away with the old wiring....i would definitely keep a eye on it though personally. but the remote should play no part of this at all...12v is 12v no matter how you change it up....
