The guy that replaced the clutch in my 90 mtx said the auto-adjuster was bad and was causing the pedal to vibrate/buzzzzzz while driving or idling...(reference from ford tech.) I think NOT !
Why do some people think they can just shoot you a line of crap and fool you into spending more money and not fix the problem... because they are to sorry to own-up to their mistakes and pull it down and redo the job! Sooo, I will ask anyway...
Has anyone ever had an auto-adjuster go out? Did you get a progressive increase in clutch pedal vibration or buzzz over a short time frame?
I have been told about lose P. Plate & clutch bolts and possible TOB (sleeve) problem or even a bent fork lever... but an auto-adjuster...hmmm? could it be under adjusted???

Welcome to the club my friend wink

My clutch buzzes/vibrates as the rpms get higher, but you don't really hear it until you depress the pedal; which almost tickles your foot!

I believe your clutch cable is "bad"... it has been adjusted so many times it has nothing left? I plan to replace the cable in the near future. Good luck!

Mine has been doin it for a little bit now. I replaced everything but the cable and the shift fork I honestly think its the shift fork that is doing it. You can here the little knocking at idle and if you disconnect the cable at the tranny it still does it. I knew I should have replaced it but I didn't have the money to add that part, I was empty between the tranny and the clutch! But anyways, I wil live with it for now I guess.

if it happened right after your clutch install, you are looking at either a kinked TOB, or the bolts not being loctited or torqued properly. Of course the tech will say it's something else, they don't want to look like an idiot.

I'm not sure that would be my problem, as I just got under there and over tightened the adjuster manually and it took out the buzzz but, the clutch release point is very high (from the floor up). I re-ajusted the clutch and it went back to the buzz. I did swap cables also today and still no improvement.

I would think that a good machanic would have told me that the fork was bent and needed to be replaced; he put new bushings in there. Guess I didn't have a knowledgable machanic, huh?
I think that you and/or SHO91MTX are right (sdpatt mentioned this on my other post), it makes sense that the source of the problem is inside the trans./clutch area. I just have to get enough proof(opinions) to convience him to take it back out and fix the thing Or...
I'm gonna have to go to court to get my money back for refusing to correct the problem. I'm going to 3 Ford dealers and get their diagnosis and estimates and take them back to him and request that he correct the problem. If he still refuses...well, he'll have to face the magistrate judge! Sound like a good plan?

Thanks to everyone, I do appreciate it! thumbs_u

Brian,
My '93 does the same thing. Since I have owned it (3 months) I have only gone to 5500+ rpms once because the damn clutch sounds like it is gonna rattle apart. Any other time it will not produce those sounds. I have been blaming it on a bad clutch, since it grabs near the top (from the floor up). Although, if I push a little on the clutch pedal when it is fully out the first inch or more feels like there is a little slack in the cable. Any chance the high engagement of my clutch could be the cable?

Hey Brian,
The auto adjuster should take up all the slack in the cable unless it's stretched severely. Pull up on the pedal and then press the pedal to the floor. If you hear a click or two it adjusted itself. still slack???... check the white plastic (gromet?)mount on the cable next to the TOB fork on the trans. to see if it is damaged; if that's OK??... well, Have you ever checked the auto-adjuster to see if it is working properly? I got under there and played with it until I figured out how it works. I had to over adjust(tighten) mine to get the vibration out resulting in a high pedal engage/disengage but, I found that this (in my case)only works temporary and the problem is coming back again at this tighter adjustment
.....a bad sign, time to take mine back apart and fix the real problem inside the trans.!

You can reach behind the pedal and tighten the cable adjuster with your thumb. first, push down on the pedal with one hand and as you release the pedal push up on the cable adjuster (blue plastic thingy)with your thumb; you'll hear it click.
To release alot of tention on the cable. you can pull up on the pedal and use a long screwdriver (or something) to push the cable adjuster back the other way but, release the pedal before you take pressure off the screw driver as that will allow the cable adjuster to stop were you have it. if you don't the spring will pull it tight again! oh yeah, spring could be broke too!

Don't force anything in there, if you break it, you're in for a PITA job replacing the clutch pedal assembly!

Replacing the cable isn't too bad; just hard to reach down to the firewall hole to push the cable back through.

I hope you like being on your head as this is a contortionist manuver..hehehe

Long winded but hopefully helpful to ya! Good Luck ! :D
