Well, one of my axle seals are leaking now on the passenger side. I know i should've changed them when i had the trans out but i didnt. i bought a Seal puller for pulling the seal out but when i put it, should i lubricate the new seal up a little bit? And whats the best way to get the seal in? with some PVC piping or just softly tap with a hammer? Also. When refilling the tranny with fluid, where is the easiest place to put it in? When i put it in after the new clutch i put it in through the fluid level check set screw on the side. there has to be an easier way. Of course i never really looked when i had the tranny out.

The Tranny holds 2 quarts right? or is it 2 1/2?

TIA

3 quarts use the filler hole on the side. Use a piece of pipe to help you drive the seal in. Its also a good idea to use aerobic sealant between the seal and the aluminum seat.

Do not hammer on the seal no matter how gently. You will dent it and it will leak. Use a seal driver or proper sized piece of PVC. I believe that the seal called for a sealant for the metal to metal area, but I think I have seen one brand of seal with a green coating on the metal ring.

When you say the filler hole you mean the set screw on the side to check the fluid?

aerobic sealant? huh?

Yes the hole on the side that uses a 3/8 square drive. Try a search about that sealant, its the same stuff used to seal the case of the tranny.

Use anearobic sealant, NOT permatex nor silicone. The other sealants, like permatex or silicone, are viscous (thick) enough to distort the seal. The best way to instal the seal is with a seal driver, but you can get away with using the proper sized pipe to drive the seal straight and even. The seal should come with lubricant on the rubber seal. Make sure the axel is clean and you can lightly **** the shaft before sliding it in! Be careful sliding in the axel so as not to tear the seal or pop the spring the runs around the inside of the seal.

Well, i put the new seal in this morning before work and got everything re installed, and after work tonight i put fluid in it and started it and took it for a drive and the leak stopped so all is good now....lets hope

Now i can take this thing on a trip for the holiday and put some miles on the new clutch to break it in so i can get this damn ZEX installed :naughty:
