Hey, I'm going to replace the boot on my passenger side axle. I have it out of the car and I have the boot off. I have moved the C-clip up so it's no longer in place holding whatever it was holding before. The C-clip is right behind all of the barings in the assembly.

Does anyone know how to disassemble this the rest of the way so I can get a standard boot on this thing? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much.

Regards,
Brian

Put some rags, wood blocks, or aluminum blocks around the shaft and put it in a vise, i.e., clamp the shaft in a vise but in such a way that the load is distributed so the shaft doesn't distort. Cut the old boot away so that you can see the CV. Take a soft punch (e.g., brass, aluminum) and tap the CV off the shaft by tapping it on the star portion, close to the shaft if you can. Tap around until it pops off. Sometimes they come off fairly easily, sometimes a bit harder.
