Do I have autolock capability in my '89 w/keypad?

If so, how do I activate/de-activate it?

Also, how does it work? What events cause the doors to lock/unlock w/MTX?

if this is what you are talking about: put in your code on the pad and then press the last 2 buttons at the same time and the doors should lock, hope this helps

If you're referring to the feature whereby the doors lock when you put the car in gear, this was only available on the ATX. However you can unlock and lock the doors with the keypad - the code is a 5 digit located in the trunk.
Good Luck

You can also upgrade the MTX with the autolock feature by installing the swithch p/n E6SZ-14A501-A in the seat cushion bottom of the driver's seat for less than $25 at the dealership and then inabling the autolock feature. Check out the proceedure on the SHOtimes FAQ;

http://www.shotimes.com

Under "modifying...", then "interior".

Remember that the feature out works when the reverse lamps go on then off. In an ATX this happens every time you shift out of park into either revese of directly into drive. In an MTX this will only happen if you deliberately shift the tranny into and out of reverse. That's why it was not factory install in the MTX's.

you can also do it the cheap way by jumpering the lone gray plug underneath your driver seat. just make sure you remember your keyless code, cuz you'll be scrambling to find a locksmith if not!

Been there done that. PITA everytime you get out of the car with the engine running, then punching in the 5 digit code to get back in. But then it isn't an option if you don't have keyless enter, you have to install the drivers seat switch to use the auto lock or make sure you always carry and extra key.

So when you have autolock (car locks coming out of reverse) the keyless entry is disabled when the car is running?

I put some seats from a 93 sable in my 91 plus, and the auto-lock works. I couldn't figure out why the doors always lock themselves when I shift out of reverse.

well not to hijack but how do you get the keypad to work at all? I got the code off the trunk lid and off the module in the trunk. Both numbers match but dont work when entered in the keypad. You can press the last two buttons and it will lock the doors. Press any button and the lights come on. what gives?
