im also just curious. did they tell you which parts went bad? we basically already know... but still.

i was told that the diff pin was working its way out, so im sure that the aluminum shavings gave the pump a hard time. the pump or shaft i believe went on mine. it would drop out of gear, and then pick up again... i dont think it was circulating the trans fluid. i knew it was rebuild time soon as anything happened and i was 50km highway from home, so i went for it. the car stuck in 4th and would not downshift... it was weird. cruised fine at 100km/h. then i got off the highway, and put it into neutral when slowing down, pulled into a parking lot to see the smoke pooring out of the engine bay, popped the hood and checked, tranny fluid was near black. i then nursed it home. i could feel the clutch bands grabbing and slipping now... it was a trick to get the car moving. got another one in there now.

I'm glad it worked out for you Joe. Its nice to hear when a repair facility does the job right and the customer is satisfied. Its all to often we hear the horror stories of rebuilds gone bad and shops that don't stand behind their work or blame it on something totally unrelated. Have fun with your crisp shifting SHO!

He said the torque converter went to pieces, and I think metal shavings from that got into the transmission and wreaked havoc. In particular, one of the clutches was shredded and one of the bands broken.
