I am changing my trans oil/filter on my 94 ATX SHO. When I removed the original ATX filter I noticed there was two orange seals. One on the filter and the other in the pump pick up shaft. Is this correct? When I called my local ford dealer they said that the AX4S ATX trans has what they call a long orange seal, but the picture looks like it is split in two pieces. (One part number)

BTW: The filter kit from NAPA came only with one orange seal installed on the filter. Can anyone clarify this for me.

Also is there any specific torque sequence for the ATX pan?

Thanks...!

I have a '97 with the AX4N tranny so it should be the same. My guess is that whoever changed the filter before left the orange seal up in the orifice. Whenever I've pulled off my old filter the seal stayed up in the tranny. Pull the old one out by bending it inward and pulling it out with a needle nose.

When I install the pan to case bolts I put all the bolts in hand tight. Then snug them all with a ratchet in a crisscross pattern. The final torque is 10 lb-ft applied in a similar crisscross pattern.

My Helm manual doesn't reccomend any specific sequence but I pull my pan 3 or 4 times a year and I have never had any leaks.
