Well I've been happily running my SHO for 5 years now with only a few electrical problems to speak of (mainly the starters keep dying), and now I'm facing a situation which might end up separating me from the car, depending on cost. I have a '93 ATX with 158,000 miles. The transmission was rebuilt at about 80,000 miles, and has been great up until now. The problem developed suddenly: from a stop, if the car is in drive or reverse, it will not engage when I attempt to accelerate. Occasionally, it will kick into gear with a loud bang if I pester it enough, but that is becoming more rare.

For everyday driving, I can simply put it in 2nd to start and stop, but there is no way for me to reverse, unless I use gravity or get out and push on the pillar. Clearly, parking in a downhill situation is not a good idea.

After taking it to a local shop, they informed me I had two options: either rebuild it again, or replace it. Both would be extremely time-consuming and expensive. Fortunately, I have some friends who are willing to do the labor for free, but I'll still need a transmission. I've seen people on here mention the Continental, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest other types of automatic transmissions that would fit this car?

I really don't want to be parted from it now simply because I'm low on cash. I'd appreciate any and all help. Thanks in advance.
