I know my ATX front motor mounts are bad, (the engine rises up a few inches when accelerating etc.) and I need to replace it before it gets worse and causes other problems.

I can get an OEM one from my local Ford dealership that I work at in the summers for a discounted price of $120, that is a little spendy right now......ecspecially for not having much cash and being 17 w/ no job.

Can I take my mount to a local machine shop and have them reinforce it etc.? Or is that to big of a job for a machine shop not familiar with SHO's to do?

How much are reinforced mounts, because if they arent much more than $120 then mabe I better keep it easy on my car for a few weeks til' I can save up some money.

Suggestions desperately needed.

THANKS

what to do, what to do  madflame  doh headbang

The mounts on the ATX are fluid filled and nearly impossible to re-inforce. I have heard this from some very knowledgable people in this very SHO community.

I have a new mount on my ATX, and the engine still rises a good inch. Not nearly as bad as it used to be, but it does. Nature of the beast. The ATX was designed to be a much more 'cushy' car, and the fluid filled mounts were the best way to go.

BTW, $120 with a discount seems a little steep to me...that seems like regular price, as I paid 160cdn for it at my local FoMoCo dealer...

I have a solid front mount...makes quite a difference...

I paid a total of $80 for a used mount, which was reinforced by someone here in Texas. I am not sure he wants to make more, but I can ask if you are interested...perhaps he would be willing to simply let folks know what the reinforcement is...

Check the mounts...if they are really bad, then you may have to throw them away...otherwise, they can be used as a core. I happen to have one that is still in good shape. That piece also allowed the engine to move quite a bit...

was he experienced in reinforcing mounts or anything, or did you just take it to a random machine shop?

I check and see if they can be purchased over the phone and ship direct to your door. They are holding up pretty good. It keeps the motor from throwing back flips in the engine bay.. rofl

I figured I should give an update to this::

The oreilly mount is unfortunately not the correct mount for the ATX cars with the hydraulic mount, it is the tranny mount that is just behind the driver's wheel, even though they list it as the front motor mount. I ended up going to the Dealer and paying $155.00 for the mount (insulator as they call it). Also, the instructions on Shotimes for changing the mount are not for an ATX car. The instructions do not say what car they are for, but it's definately not an ATX car with the hydraulic mount. If you have not changed one of the hydraulic mounts before be ready for a long process. The top two bolts are behind the a/c compressor. I ended up pulling the alternator, a/c compressor, rad. fans and radiator along with the battery and tray . Once you do all of this you can then hold the a/c compressor up against the condensor enough to get to the two top bolts. I took the oppurtunity to pull my antenna housing while I was down there so I could get the broken mast out. I started at 8PM and ended at 4AM. The Ford dealer quoted me a half day and $200 to $250 in labor for them to change the mount, if I had known how hard it really was they would have gotten my money. Either way It was worth it in the end because the rubber in my mount was ripped all the way around.

I have the solid ATX engine mounts, front & rear; front's on my 95 ATX now as a test, rear's going on shortly along with some aluminum SFBs. Already I've noticed a difference in the car with the front mount only.

There's currently an availability issue, but I'm trying to work around that now. As soon as I have both in the car, and I'm satisfied with the way it feels, and the availability issues are worked out, I'll make an announcement to the public.
