ATX fluid for steering?

I've heard that Automatic transmission fluid is recommended by Ford for use in the Power Steering system. Has anyone tried this, and if so, any differences noted? Better yet, has it corrected any problems, or created more?

Mercon III ATF is the prescribed fluid for the P/S system.

It works just fine, like it is supposed to.

Yup, i took a bath in that fluid this weekend. Sure makes everying nice and slippery

I use Mobil One ATX in the '97 and Amsoil ATX in the '93 for the PS.

i use mercon 5 in my 90 and seems ok so far

I've used Castrol Type F tranny fluid in mine and works fine.
