Well, I've got my SHO Source atx race cooler.

I want to get some better hose/fittings instead of the stuff that came with it. I'm looking at aeroquip products (i have a source to get them at wholesale pricing, not based on preference to one company or another) and have some questions.

What size hose should i go with for the cooler? I talked to a tech at work and he suggested keep it to -8 or -6 for the hose size as it will be enough for my application.

What do you guys think about that? What would be the ideal size of hosing for the ATX cooler?

the ATX transmission does not have a lot of flow to the cooler. From what I found anything larger than stock lines is not necessary. I want to say my turbo car used 3/8 barbs at the tranny to 1/2" at the cooler back to 3/8 at the tranny. I am definitely not saying to skip trans cooler upgrades because they are vital to extending its life but heat wrapping your manifolds and Y-pipe will provide a substantial trans temp decrease.

so i took the car/parts to my mechanic that does all my work.

I bought 10ft of SS braid oil hose (6AN size) and it's a bit smaller then the trans lines on the vehicle. He said he can still put in on and clamp the hose with some fittings. Now, i have some AN fittings (the blue/red aeroquip ones) but he said those wont match up to the hose coming from the trans and that using clamps would be best.

What do you guys think? I like the idea of using quality AN fittings with the AN SS braided hose. It also adds a nice look to stuff.

thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

My opinion is that clamps are fine. the AN stuff is nice but once it is on it is not one of those things you mess with unless you break something.

well anything i replace/upgrade i want to do it so it will never need to be looked at ever again.

Might as well do it up right and also having it look a cut above the rest is always nice.

When it comes to sizing, seems like it's all over the map. I'm thinking of just doing all the trans lines in 6AN.

3/8" hosing is the best. Change the fittings on the trans. I forget what size I used but I know they mate perfectly to 3/8" hosing. I bought them from home depot in the air compressor section. Just run a hose to and from the tranny through a cooler. Bypass the radiator end-tank and remove the steel lines.

Well i want to do the whole AN thing. Best quality plus it's got good looks. Now, i know the AN SS braid hose has a huge psi rating, something that my trans will never near. So it is a bit of overkill but im fine with spending the money for quality stuff that will last forever. That's one of the reasons i went with my suspension set-up vs tokico/koni/quick struts.

So 3/8 hose is .37 of an inch I.D. and 6AN is .34". I could do 6AN or go to 8AN (.44" I.D.)

If i use 6AN, since it's slightly smaller in diameter, will that have any hegative impacts on the trans/fluid in any way? Going to a smaller hose probably is never a good thing but it's .03" in size difference.

No. But if you want you could drill the inside diameter to 3/8. That is something that I did to match mine.

If i can use 6AN without any negative side effects, then i will probably just do that. Just convert all the fittings to AN from trans to cooler and back. Depends how much work the mechanic is willing to do, he wasnt keen on using AN fittings.
