Alright what the **** happened.

The only time it would slip would be in a 3 to 2 downshift and slip and catch hard. Well today it did it once and shuttered really bad untill I let off the gas.

Then on the next 3 to 2 downshift it went boom and I only had 1st gear.

Beyond the obvious, what happened?

Also I had to drive 10 miles in 1st gear and now my A/C dosent work and makes horrid sounds. What happened there, would prolonged time at 6k do it in?

Ughhhh, the under $1k monster hits again!

Your Kidding. As you know thats exactly what just happened to me. BTW, can't wait for the intake :D

Mine was the high revs reverse gear. The drum split in two, and took oput my planetary gears.

I am haveing my tranny beefed up a little.

Sound like you need a rebuild cry

Chris - we may need to talk....if your not too busy call me or stop by tommorow.

Bluto - that's what was going through my head as it happened.

Of course all this happened right after I filled my gas tank. I always have this happen on a full tank of gas!!!

BTW a friend of mine seems to think it's mechanical and not the bands since I still have 1st and reverse. Weird.

when a transmission is slipping, it produces an aweful amount of heat.

When my transmission went out, the fluid had heated up enough to destroy the forward clutches for 1-2 and 2-3, fuse the metals together (the pieces in between the clutches in the drum). I had lost OD, 3rd and 1st at that point.

One thing I learned from the first rebuild (yes, I am on my second....in 6 months) was that, while the valve body rarely goes bad, it can cause alot of funny problems when it does. If you have it rebuilt, make sure they thoroughly inspect the valve body for any scoured valves and elongated valve journals. Initially, my transmission shop thought the valve body was fine. It was the cause of my second rebuild.

FYI, the second time my car's transmission died, I was moving at about 40mph and hammered it to merge onto a highway. It 'neutralized' at about 7000rpm, and slowly slipped back into gear. This happened in about 5 seconds or so, and it completely destroyed my forward clutches for the 1-2 and produced enough heat to warp and scorch the drum. At this point, the transmission had 20k on it.

Hope this helps
