I have a 94 atx and the tranny was stuck in 2nd gear. I drove it like that for a while but then Ilocked my self out of my car. The lights were on and it drained the batery so i coulnt get in. I finaly got in and got a new batery. When i drove it out of the parking lot it was in first then it shifted fine on the way home. I have haerd that haveing the battery disconected will reset the computer so i was wandering if the computer controls the trannsmission?
Thanks Dan

Yep - the Gen 2 ATX computer controls all manner of transmission behavior. ;)

All manner? So if I have a first to second gear hick-up it is the computers fault? Mine does not slip or leak and has no error codes(that it is showing) but it does have an occasional 1st gear to second gear flub. I have done the usual(changed fluid/lucas/added another trans cooler). The rest of the car is fine-just the trans flub. What will help-another computer? 94/95? It is a 93(I know ..notorious trans problems) Let me know..

Not necessarily. As with any electronic component, the computer can only tell the transmission what it wants it to do. How the transmission ultimately behaves is entirely up to the internal mechanical make-up of the transmission itself.

That said, I would be more inclined to think that a mechanical wear issue (such as low line pressure from a failing forward clutch piston or even worn direct clutches) is to blame for your 1-2 "flub" than an ill-conceived factory program.

How many miles do you have on your tranny?
