My `95 ATX SHO has almost 90,000 miles on it. I bought it last fall and drove it very little until it was put away for the winter.
I have been driving it now quite a bit and can see and feel the things it will need to make it like new again.
The ATX transmission seems to work good. The shifts are where they should be but softer than I would like. As the transmission gets hot the shifts get softer. There is absoloutely no slipping going on at this point.

What I need to know is what actions will help extend the life of the transmission.
I figure a bigger cooler is in order but I am waiting until my trans temp gauge is hooked up so I can get a baseline reading of where it runs now.
Then I'd like to do the Trans-Go shift kit.
Any further advise?
Where can I get the shift kit?

Yeah! I almost forgot. :bonk: Would synthetic fluid help? If so is there any way to flush out all the old stuff so I am not mixing fluid types?

Getting a Teb B. chip would take away the slower shifts as it heats up, and firm up the shifts all together. No matter if you get the temp gauge or not you are going to want to add a large 'stacked' tranny cooler.

The synthetic is better and here is a thread already describing the tranny flush (http://shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=43438&highlight=tranny+fluid+flush). Ted's LPM definitely helps, the Transgo Shift kit is very good, but might as well wait for a rebuild, then install it due to cost. Simply installing a new tranny cooler does not work as well as expected. Doug Lewis at FPS has some designs that will help. I have 2 tranny coolers in parallel that I still need to test, but the racing cooler by itself does not do the job...perhaps even a solid tranny mount from HypermikeD!

Have fun!

I just installed a used Ford rebuilt ATX in my SHO myself. I had a the Trans-Go kit installed when I had a shop go over the tranny. At this point I have 200 miles on the tranny and the shifts are firm and quick. Full throttle shifts feel like a speed shift in a MTX. The shift kit installer reccomended NOT using the springs for the FIRMEST shifts. He told me that they would be tire criping shifts all the time. I am glad I took his advise.
