no regular clean trany fluid should be reddish pink and it will not stink. i dont think you can get all of it out with out tapping a drain plug into the bottom of it or pulling it out and apart

If you drop the pan to change the filter you will not even get half the fluid out. You will have to bring it to a shop to have a cmplete transmission flush done to remove all the old burnt fluid.

His sig says he has a 92, which makes it an MTX. The only way to completely exchange fluid without removing the trans is to drill, tap and plug a hole in the bottom.

And BTW, you don't need to take it to a shop to have an ATX transmission flush done. Remove return line from trans (i forget which one it is) and put in 5 gallon bucket. Start car and keep adding fluid as fast as it comes out. Reinstall line and top off.

I didn't realize it was an MTX, I am just too tired and didn't read his post in detail I guess. If you do a transmission flush like you said it can get a little messy.

all atf stinks, especially when new. that is one of the ways you tell it from motor oil, along with the red color.

a brownish grayish reddish color sounds about right for used atf in a mtx. Its going to get dirty from the bearings, syncro wear, etc. that is just how it works.

normally, you only need to change that around every 100k miles, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Install MTX drain plug, if you don't already have one. Drain whatever fluid is in there, and pour through a quart of cheap ATX fluid to wash the bottom out. Refill with Mobil 1 ATX.
