I'm asking this for Jason aka yamahasho as he is on the road driving back up here:

While driving he noticed that he had a little ATF on his Shoes and the carpet under his feet. The only thing we can figure is that the ATF is coming up throught he speedo cable housing and dripping down through the dash. Anybody ever seen anything like this before or have any advice to offer? The trans just had a quaife installed, so the speedo cable was pulled when the trans came out. If there a seal in the speedo cable that could have failed?

Sounds like he found the solution - trans was overfilled with fluid.

Does the MTX have a vent to relieve internal pressure?

I don't think the speedo cable would suck up tranny fluid... especially without very noticeable effects on the speedo or surrounding gauges... like shorting the dash out.

Well, the way the speedo is designed it would not necessarily make it all the way to the dash itself - but it could come through the cable. I think the overfull situation caused it to get a bubble (or bubbles) of fluid in teh cable, and they climbed up and dripped out.

I'm leaning toward the VSS.

There is a vent on the MTX and even cars with the proper amount of fluid in them can lose small amounts fluid out that vent at WOT, like on the track.

My biggest question is how can one get the MTX overfilled? You fill it until fluid drains out the fill plug hole, then replace the plug. I don't think you could get a significant amount overfill in one since that is the only place to put fluid in and when it's full the excess will come out in a hurry.

I'm almost certain I overfilled it... don't ask as I will feel stupid... Also, you are supposed to check when warm for proper level. I did it cold. Anyway, gotta replace a cam seal this weekend.

Only time I've ever heard of fluid comming out form under the dashboard is when a guy pulled his Intake Manifold, and forgot to hook up one of the anti-freeze lines.

By filling the trans up while the car is on ramps or jack stands. ;)

How would that get fluid inside the car?

Ah, Bizzy,

Remember, all things are possible when you are young. Just think of all the youngsters who were conceived in the back seat of a Volkswagon Beetle in the 60's! :****:
