For those that don't know, Meadowdale raceway was an aggressive road course with a fair amount of elavation change (considering our area). The track was only in operation for about 11 years from the early 50's to the early 60's. It was plagued by many problems from poor asphalt to lack of support by organized racing groups. Nonetheless, many of the greats raced on this track and better yet, the track is still there (abandoned) as are the grandstands (frame), catwalk, Silo, etc.
Tom Ochall's father raced this track and will be with us to answer any questions and to throw out comments as he pleases. A friend of mine and I walked a 10th of the track on a cold day and were amazed at how well some of the track has been preserved. It's going to be an interesting day and we'll be sure to close it up with wings and beer just in case the track isn't interesting enough.
A couple notes:
The track is located on 31 in Carpentersville and is now a forest preserve. It's hard to see but it's called Raceway Woods. In case you get split from the herd on the way there, your map will have some details on it.
You will be hiking about 3 miles. This really isn't a lot of ground to cover but bring a bottle of water with just in case.
