Any one with 73mm C&L MAF

Has anyone installed a 73mm C&L meter calibrated for SHO? I thinking of purchasing one and fabricating my own elbow from TB to MAF. They claim it's specific to SHO's and are better than mustang MAF's.

do a quick search in the mod forum and that will fill you in completly! from all i have read i have not heard one good report of the C+L maf working worth a damn,it been trashed every time i hear about it.Look at using a MKVIII maf,once again do a search in gen 1-2 mods to find all the info that you need to pull off this mod

There are 2 different one's I know for sure, 1 I wouldn't use and the other 1 isn't that bad..... You'd have two ask Eric VerValin and about, the one that he has...Just can't remember off the top of my head!

Pics of the one you have... there were 2 different models. And being 2 different "sample tubes" were available, you have 4 different combinations of possibilities. IIRC, the "older one" with the SHO tube was the better setup, but even that required a correct tune to get it right.

I spent time with 3 different flashed chips, and all the tubes, and both versions of it until I found one that does work very well...

I think most people weren't aware of all the extra crap you had to go thru to get it right, and they were also pretty moody on a lot of cars. In the end, it's not nearly as easy to setup and a pain in the rear more than anything. And for it running lean... I think most of that is past or very near 7300 RPM, as the 73mm moves enough air to max out that sensor, and I think a lot of the quirkyness of it comes from that... I don't get mine near 7300... but I did years ago, and would notice a "lean" memory code occasionally.. I generally shift a little earlier nowdays... an I have yet to have any O2 codes.

The only reason I still use it is because I still have the chip to go with it. On another SHO I would go with an 80 just to avoid all the headaches... plus no one really knows how to deal with a 73 when it comes to programming a chip, so its easier to say its junk. Vortech dosen't usually put their name on junk. It just wasn't something that caught on very well, when you could drop an 80mm in without a chip.

You need to use the (larger, pretty sure) sampling tube (Mustang 19 lb/hour). Just about every entity that ever sold that MAF for the SHO application stuck a Mustang 24 lb/hour tube in it "because the SHOs are 23.X lb/hr"

The SHOs used the 19 lb/hr MAF curve, and compensated for the larger injectors within the software.

I never went lean with mine SHO tube . Opinions differ. 7300 who shifts that low?lol

Hmmm...been running mine since 2002 without a single problem, and there's a noticeable difference, even before the chip.

If I get a 80mm Mark VIII MAF, can I switch over SHO sensor to 80mm MAF housing? Do I have to send out MAF housing and O.E. SHO sensor out to be recalibrated. I used send out 5.0L's MAF's to PRO-M for recalibration. The C&L MAF claims no chip or tuner required, just bolt-on and go.

For the Mark 8 you need a Tweecer or LPM.

73 and Superchip on mine 10 years old and fine, crap milage but she likes the fast.

I get around 30 on the highway all the time. You might have something else going on there man... Not sure about the superchips tho.

Then again, I see you have a 5 speed... biggest MPG killer is the skinny pedal..

i average 27 with my C&L and FPS tuned Superchip, and that's with old-as-**** plug wires, plugs and an inch of oil in the plug wells. and we all know i'm not gentle on the loud pedal. what's your excuse?

My car ran Terrible with it.

Put in the stock MAF and it ran so smooth.

Had one on my 93 and 91, no issues on the 93, but a little lean on the 91.

I ran one for a few years on my daily driver. It worked just fine. No check engine light.

I do believe that the stock MAF is just fine until you have all the bolt on's.
My daily driver put down 210whp and 210wtq. with the stock maf. It also knock's down near 30 mpg's on the high way.
