Alright so I put a new IAC in and it started surging. (rpms dipping after a small rev) Got tired of it cleaned the old one put it back in solved it. then the old one dies (chugged on startup and evens stalled at times). I go put the new one back in and it wont work at all almost like the wire wasn't feeding voltage. It finally starts working and now it surges sometimes after a rev and nearly overtime I come to a stop rpms will dip low and raise up again. and also doing the hesitation on startup although not as bad. I have strange experience with IAC valves in the past where one made and insanely annoying buzz noise. in the v8 sho I'm not totally sure if there's no vacuum leak or compression issue because the engine will run fine one day and act funny another day. I also changed the spark plugs and they look like they burned very well.

Aside from the obvious vacuum leak areas what are some areas to look for?

I have also had new iac valves be bad out of the box. Get it replaced under warranty and get one that works right.

Are these symptoms indicative of an IAC valve acting weird?

all that idle speed surging type of stuff is almost always due to sticky iac.
