After I checked again, there is NO movement at the 12 and 6 position. The only two places I see that could exhibit play were the inner tie rods and the ball joint. I'm thinking it's also the inners after looking at them again the other day. I'll probably just go ahead and replace the inner tie rods anyway; they are cheap. The only thing is I'll probably have to replace the outers again as well. I pretty much destroyed the old outer TREs last time smacking them trying to get them out of the hub. The outers are only 1 yr old. I might try to reuse them; I'm just afraid I'll ruin them getting them out. Since they are pretty new, they may not be seated in as tight as the old ones, which could have very well been the originals.

Ugh another alignment will be necessary then. I should have bought the lifetime alignment from Firestone.

If you have no play at 12 and 6 your ball joints are fine and it's most likely your inner tie rod since the outers are new. If you want to resuse your outers there is a special tool to use that allows you to remove it from the knuckle without damaging it.

It's called a mallet (aka BFH). Only instead of hitting the TRE, hit the knuckle iron around the TRE. A few good smacks and it should pop out. Do NOT hit the TRE.

This saves the threaded part of the TRE as well as the boot. You can use a pickle fork to get a stubborn one out, but it's harder on the boot.

that looks like the wheel bearing to me, i had the same problem it is was the wheel bearing, redoing the entire front end might cost some change(both lca, inner, and wheel bearings) but it is worth it, when a lca breaks while driving it is not fun
