After reading a recent post about a streched throttle cable I decided to check mine. With the gas peddle pushed to the floor the TB opened about 3/4 of the way... :(. Has anyone found cable that would fit yet? If I can't find a good used one I was just gonna try to make my own. Has anyone elese tried this yet?

What an annoying problem. I searched forever looking for the reason I had a power loss and also a stiff pedal. Finally after the gas pedal began to stick on me to the point where every time I shifted I had to tap the pedal to "release" the cable. It was chaffed all the way down to the core cable and was bending instead of closing the TB plate. Then I find out Ford discontinued the cables and junk yards just chop them up. I got lucky when I found a used one in good shape. Damn ford parts.

I remember from my 914 days two aftermarket makers of cables. Weltmeister and Terrycable. The Weltmeister brand is german and probably just makes porsche aftermarket parts. Maybe one of the SHO vendors could look into getting Terrycable to make replacement throttle and clutch cables. If they were willing to do it for the 914, why not the SHO?

I was a victim as well, I made up some spacers and put them up on the gas pedal where it met the cable, helped to open up the throttle all the way.

Update: After examining the cable and peddle I have decided that the gas peddle was bent. I bent it back to the correct position and everything works fine now.

i don't notice any power difference with my cable removed. the throttle stuck really bad one day and the revs wouldn't go down so after figuring out what the problem was i removed the throttle cable and didn't notice any difference in performance besides my throttle not sticking any more.

I feel like I should ask this, does your cruise control work now? After removing that "throttle cable".

The entire throttle cable situation is goofy. I'm using a '94 MTX Cable in my SHO. You know wha the difference is? You'll like this. After examining them side by side, the only difference i found is that the '94 has a oval grommet on the firewall and my '91 has a round grommet. To this day (a year and a half later) my throttle has been working perfectly fine.. unless my floot mat gets to the pedal but that's a TOTALLY different situation! :) Besides, i don't always mind my throttle stuck WIDE OPEN! :p

It would be cool if someone were to make a complete drive by wire system for the SHO.

It'd be expensive, hard to impliment, but one can always dream of owning an M5 :)

There certain things I don't want in my car and that's wirings controlling my throttle, steering my car, or braking the vehicle! Otherwise, if they'll make her go faster, you can even use some 2guage! LOL! :-D
