Another Tire Question....

Well the snow here in Ontario is still coming down but I'm already thinking about the summer tires I need in the spring. I run winter tires in the winter months so I just need some summer tires. I do a lot of driving so I need a tire that has fairly good tread life but I also want a performance tire to improve my handling. Here in Canada I am being quoted over $200/tire and I was wondering about a couple of tires I noticed on the tirerack.com

First the Kumho Ecsta KH11 225/55/WR16 @ $85 each

With the exchange I believe these are still less than the quoted prices I am getting but does anyone also know what the shipping/duty charges are for tires into Canada.

The tires I have (below in sig) were about a $125 cdn. That price can not be beat for a ZR rated tire. I had them on all summer/early fall and did not notice that they wore down too much. I would assume that they have the same tire for a 16" rims

Yea I just got a quote on Hercules G5000Z's 225/55/ZR16's for $128 each or $588.80 including taxes, installation, and balancing...Candian dollars of course. Any thoughts on these? I will check othe Hancocks as well. Here is a link to the Hercules tires...

Yokohama is about to come out with another tire above the AVS Sport series.

I got my 4 komho tires up here. I think it was like $650 installed with taxes in canadian funds of course. I didn't think that was so too bad.

Also If you import them your going to pay the taxes here plus shipping plus duty 6% and any brokrage fees the UPS likes to stick on. By the time you get anything from the us you can just double the price and thats about what your going to pay at the time you get them.

They're in Mississauga and specialize in performance tires, mainly Yokos.
They know their products pretty well.

Hey Brett,

Those Kumhos are simply way overpriced in Ontario. If you don't mind driving, appearantly there are places in Buffalo/Niagra that will match Tire Rack prices. Sorry don't remember any more details.

Head over to Dunn Tire...Buffalo,Niagara Falls,N.Y....on the way back,tell customs you were at the new Casino(make sure your new tires are dirty) wink

Thanks Herman and Leon. Unfortunetly I have snow tires on my car right now that will have to come off and be saved for next winter. I don't think I will be able to sneak through customer with four snow's in the trunk of my car...if I could even get four snows in the trunk of my car.

I found Kumho's for $140/tire installed in Kitchener. Still looking though. Thanks again.

well you could always say a fellow sho owner hooked you up with a new set of tires... Say you performed work for him/her and that's what you received as payment. The can't really hit you on free stuff

Yea it is a good thought but those guys at the border have not been screwing around lately. I get bugged enough when I go across into the states once a month for work. They are always asking if I am "working" in the states because they want to nail me with having to get a work visa.

If I tell them that I was actually working in the states they may not nail me on the duty but I'm sure they would love to hall me in and discuss me being a Canadian citizen working in the states with no visa as they tear my car apart in the parking lot just for the **** of it.

Not worth the time or stress...I'll find some tires up here in the great white north somewhere. Thanks for all of the help and suggestions guys. thumbs_u
