Another newbie here.

Hey all,

New guy here. I've been an enthusiast for a while now, but needed a four door car as it became a pain to load my son into a two door. Been a fan of the SHO for a long time and started my search a few months ago. I found a few I liked, but then found an MKS for a super deal.

So I purchased a 2011 MKS on the first of this month(I know not a Taurus, but hopefully still accepted here!). Fairly low mileage for the year, 77k. And a price I couldn't pass up. Car was well maintained and runs great!

I've started a mild modification path, and plan to continue soon. The day I brought it home I ordered an Airraid intake. Quickly followed by a noise maker delete pipe as the stock charge pipe had a sizeable hole in it, and the epp piece was far nicer in looks and quality for less than Ford wanted. A GH tune will be ordered very soon. Along with A 3 bar map. And possibly a tstat, but still undecided on that. Some rotors and pads, as the stockers are past there prime. Going R1 concepts rotors with z23 pads.

Less than a month of ownership and the track opened. Got my first few passes tonight, as well as weighed in.

4750 pounds with me a passenger and a quarter tank of fuel. Best pass of the night was a 14.504 with a best mph of 97.5. DA was around 8500ft, but had good temps around 70f.

[email protected], [email protected], and a [email protected]. 2.2 60' on all 3 runs.

Only issue I had was a very small amount of oil seepage from the coupler by the throttle body. Thinking of adding a catch can setup to eliminate this. Good idea? Or just deal with it? I plan to drain the cac soon as well.

Welcome, and congrats on the new ride. Not bad timeslips at all.

Replace the pipe. A catch can is a good idea for overall containment IF you find pooling crud in the intercooler or more than a misting of oil in the turbo piping.

You may find boost leaks as you get further into your ownership. Most are not difficult to deal with, thankfully

Thanks! With the killer DA, I was more than happy with those as a baseline.

The pipe has been replaced, but I may try and get slightly smaller clamps as the clamp is bottomed out. And a little oil still seeped past on the runs. I'll try and grab a pic. When I pulled off the factory pipe to replace it, oil wasn't terrible, but I'll see when I do a cac drain and go from there. Any good cans? I've heard RX and jlt are ok, but jlt is only clean side? UPR any good?

Price/performance is great for the JLT system, across many Evoboost engines. Not sure if it is only dirtyside or not, but 95% of the problem is the dirtyside anyway. Their customer service is supposed to be pretty good to, so feel free to call em up.

UPR, not many I know that have it installed, so can't say.

RX is still at the top of the heap, if you want to go that route.

I will look more into the catch cans after I do the CAC drain. Leaning towards the jlt for now, but will further research the upr vs rx. I've only done some mild reading here, and it seems the rx is better, but the upr looks great too.

Going to do some fluid maintenance asap, so a couple questions.

PTU, about 18oz? So one quart for that.
RDU how much do I need? I'll be going with redline lightweight shockproof. At $18ish a quart, I'd rather not over buy. Will probably buy a 4 pack. That should be good, Yeah?

Trans, mercon lv? How much? I've read 6qt and then I read 11-12qt. Should I just grab a case?

Just got back from vacation, so brakes will be ordered asap! Slowing from 100 At the track was interesting!! Tune will be ordered as well. Is a 3 bar a necessity? I'm sure it will be better down the road, and for the cost I may as well just do it now. What about the tstat?

Just buy 2 quarts of Redline LW shockproof fluid and put it both in the PTU and RDU. Roughly 16 to 18 oz for the PTU, and roughly 32 oz for the RDU. Two bottles will cover both.

Yes for the Trans use Mercon LV. However, you will ONLY get 5 quarts out of the drain plug. You will need to cycle in and out roughly 5 quarts, 5 times to replace the majority of the fluid.

What brakes are you looking at? I bought the Powerstop Drilled and Slotted Rotors with the Ceramic pads. They work great and they are quiet.

Is a 3 bar a necessity? Ask your tuner.

The t-stat question.......I personally think they are a gimmick, just a quick way to snag 50 to 70 dollars from your pocket. Tuner University agrees with me.

I'll be ordering the redline asap from amazon, as I can't find any local to me.

So for the trans, I should order 25qts? I read about the drain/fill/cycle 3x. 5x is better? Drain, fill, cycle through gears parked or should I go for a quick drive?

I personally would just cycle 5 quarts in every couple of thousand miles.
