Since I got my '89 almost 2 years ago(been on the road for 1), the Blend door has not worked. It clicks and clacks very loudly when I start the car, almost everytime. The car also has the Elect. Climate Control that only '89's have.

Now, my question is: When the weather is hot, the clicking is worse. When it is cooler, it is not so bad, and sometimes doesn't even click at all.
I cannot get the temperature to change, as it seems to be stuck on Full- Hot. I can play with the Temp. setting buttons and the display changes, but that is all.

I have run the self-test before and came back with the Blend door code.

I am just curious why the clicking actuator is worse in the hotter weather.

Sorry for teh rambling. I know what I am trying to ask, but sometimes I just can't put the thoughts on the computer. :D

On hot days the eatc is trying to move that blend door to a cold position but its stuck so it clicks. On cold days the eatc asks for heat, the stuck position so no clicks.

I understand what you are saying, but it clicks and makes more noise even when the EATC is turned Off. It just does it worse when the weather is hotter, is all.

Strange if it clicks while off. shrug
That's why it is driving me insane! I don't feel like pulling the dash to replace the Blend door actuator and that not being the problem...

I wish other people would chime in here...

could something be blocking the blend door from it being closed? especially since we found all those weird random bits from the front of the car in between the heads :)

I had the same problem. Mine clicked whether I had the system on or not. I know its no fun but you're gonna have to pull the dash off and replace the blend door actuator. Get some sleep and have some nice cold beer waiting for you at the end of the day. Enjoy.

JayShoGuy,

Sounds like a vacuum acuator motor. As to why the problem is more exagerated in warm weather, I think it is due to the fact that the air is less dense in warm weather, and more dense as it cools down (IMHO). Therefore, the offending vacuum motor works a little better with denser air.

If your 89 is like my 90, there are three vacuum motors burried in the maze under the dash. Have fun! rangerj

Ah, I dunno. Hopefully I can sell the car the way it is. Let someone else worry about it :( .
