So a while back I got an 8" fosgate sub in a stock box for free from another member. Went ahead and bought a 360x2 JL amp for it. Had it in for a while and was happy with it for the most part(distortion at higher volumes). Went ahead and got all new JL C2 speakers, and got another 8 inch fosgate for free, wired it in series with the first one, but now it hoesnt "hit" as hard. I've found a Soundstream 500x2 amp for cheap, and am going to be using it for the subs.

Now my question is, how do I use the JL amp for the speakers? The car is a 90 with jbl, so i assume each speaker has its wires leaving the stock amp, right? could I just find the +s and -s and group the together and hook it up to the amp?

Can the stock wiring take it? I dont go around town slapping beats all day, but there is some static at the high end, and I doubt its the speakers, I'm guessing its the stock amp.

And how big of a wire would I need from the battery for both amps? 2 ga?

4 guage is plenty from the battery to the distribution block. stock speaker wires will work just fine, though i'm curious on how you plan to run 4 speakers with a 2 channel amp unless you're just gonna run a front stage like me. what sort of box are the subs in, and what series fosgates are they?

Ya to do all 4 speakers you gunna need a 4 channel amp. I just bought the sony Xplod 600w 4channel amp at walmart for 100$ and its really pretty good.

Im running alpine type s interiors and alpine tweets with crossovers. For subs i am running a Boston SPG 555 with a gt-28 boston amp and interior amp is boston gt-22. I love the set up its just loud enough for me. I ran a 0 gauge wire for both amps and was going to use the stock wires for interiors but ran all new wires from back of deck to amp

Fostgate P1 4 ohm in a stock gen two box. I was gonna wire the front to one ch and the rear to another. The speakers are 4 ohm and would be in parallel, so it would be 2 ohms per channel, and the amp is rated at 180wx2 @ 2ohm

wiring it up that way's gonna cause some interesting and not-so-desireable effects with your music.in other words, it'll sound like poo. Run the 2 channel to the fronts and power the rears off the deck and see how you like it...if you're unhappy with it, get a 4 channel.

Did you try hooking it up yet? I agree with SuperHO on this one. Running the fronts to one channel and the rears to the other is going to sound like crap. If you're absolutely ****-bent on running all 4 speakers off of a 2 channel amp, I'd wire both left speakers to the left channel and both right speakers to the right channel. I would still go SuperHO's route, though, and run the front speakers off of the amp and the rear speakers off of the deck until you can spring for a 4 channel amp.

simply put, it'd sound like you were sitting sideways between the speakers.

Exactly. That's why I suggested that if he absolutely HAD to run all 4 speakers off of the 2 channel amp he should run the lefts to the left channel and the rights to the right channel. Wouldn't sound quite as awkward that way. It's still no substitute for a 4 channel amp, though.

Sounds ghetto.

Get a 4 channel amp if you wanna do it right.

the only real drawback to running both left speakers off one channel will be the lack of ability to fade the volume front to back.
