Ok so my old alt was charging the batt at 17.5 volts while the car was on. The battery light was on and all my electronics were fudged up. Somehow a random shop in my home town had a brand new Ford OEM alt for a 3.2L SHO so i picked it up and put it in. Works like a bloody charm.
The alt that i took out of my car appears to be a reman unit. It only has 3 yrs/10,000km on it. I'm assuming the voltage regulator on it is pooched. Instead of returning the alt for the $50 core charge, i plan on rebuilding it and keeping it around as a back up. Then i wont have to shell out $200 bucks or **** myself trying to find one around here.
I've got a few questions about an alt rebuild (and yes i already used the search function but no luck)
-Is the votlage regulator attached using screws or is it soldered on? been going through old threads and i've seen two different opinions.
-Where can i buy a new voltage regulator for the alt? It's the mitsubishi one from a 3.2L
-i assume to replace the voltage regulator its as easy as pie (if its just screwed in). Open up the case, undo some screws, pop in new one, screw it back in. Then take it to my local Part Source and have them test it for free.
I guess if its still acting up, then it needs something other then the voltage regulator. Possible problems?
