So I have a 2 questions about the alternator cable and power system on the SHO. I have been tracking this and some other problems for a while through searches, but I am at a crossroad on this situation, so any help would be appreciated.

I'll keep my list of SHO demons short by saying that I bought a new battery about a month ago and have an alternator in the car that is about a year old. Last weekend I recently replaced the +/- batt. cables with some thicker gague wire.

Today after lunch i get in my car and the battery light is on and grows brighter as i accelerate. After charging the battery and getting it up to Autozone to be checked, I find out my alternator is shot.

My first question is (and this may be a dumb question - but it lends itself to the second question) - did the thicker gague wires **** my alternator some how? Neither cable is connected to the alternator... so could it have had some kind of impact on it?

My second question is in regards to the cable that runs from the alternator > starter > fuseblock. On my car the cable coming from the alternator (the eye-socket) splices into the cable that goes from the starter to the fuseblock. I would like to replace this whole cable assembly as i have had an issue with it before. Do I need the cables to be spliced together like they are now, or can I run a cable from the alternator > starter, and another from the starter > fuse?

I'm sorry if my question doesn't make sense. I want to be sure to get my charging system as solid as possible before i start tracing down my electrical and idle problems.

Thanks in advance guys! You have already been a lot of help to me on here.

Pretty much staright foward, you have the right idea. When you buy a cable from Ford (now discontinuted) It comes with every + wire on it, from starter to distribution etc.. It will work the way you are explaining just fine.

So then i can stack 3 different eye-sockets on top of each other on the terminal for the starter? It wont have any effect if they are touching each other?

Would it be okay for me to go to a thicker gague wire on those cables as well?

Thanks for your response
