Hey i read through almost all the threads on ALSFB and was wondering on what years were the recalls and what was the recall. I have a 1993 MTX and am thinking about the ALSFB. my car rides pretty rough now as it is, I have eibachs and koni's with front and rear strut braces and subframe connectors so its pretty stiff. I can probably make the strusts less stiff but thats not fun :naughty:. Also how bad is it really installing myself I dont have the money for them at all (buying them anyway) so I would have to do the labor myself. How bad are they to put in? I want this car to outhandle as many cars as possible so a rough ride really isnt that big of a deal for me.

ALSFBs are definatly a worthwhile mod. Completely changes the steering characteristics of the SHO, for the better. And noise increases are minimal, unless you have a suspension chock full of TPR bushings.

Not hard to do, but I would recommend an alignment afterwords.

call ford and tell them your VIN, they will tell you if the car still has an open recal or not. if it does bring it in and they will do the recall for free. i just did it last summer on my 92. They were very helpful and got it done fast. the recall dosent include new bushings, but they threw new (stock) bushings on for me for free anyways. Just that alone made the car steer much better, i can't imagine how well it must be after the ASFB. FYI...if you look under the carpet there will be a hole drilled if the recal was done, it will be covered with a rubber plug. after they did the recall i pulled it out and sprayed some paint in and around where they cut to prevent more rust.

Sounds like your dilemma is the same as mine. Josh of SHONutperformance
tells me that even if the car isn't in the recall it's a good idea to at least take a look at the nuts - specially in cars from the "rust belt". In that the ALSFBs are going to put a lot more stress on the body members it mounts up
to this sounds like a prudent course of action to me. Being that I do NOT want to do this again I got the kits and will do it anyway - just to be on the safe side.
The suspension goes in next week - ALSFBs and all.

I just asked if mine was in the system for it needing done while checking on my ball joint pinch bolts. It doesn't show any open recalls. Yesterday I pulle the rug back on the D/S and didn't see any plug... How do you check the nuts? What are reference points for measuring to drill/cut?

The directions for cutting the holes and installing the new hardware are included in the recall kit.

I just remembered that the recall installation instructions can actually be found online toward the end of this document, which is referenced in the other thread:

A picture of the rubber plugs in the floor showing that the recall has been done was also referenced in the other thread (pic compliments of RacerX):

I'd recommend replacing ALL of the subframe nutplates, front and rear. I had the right rear nutplate nearly fail after several track events in the FreakSHO. The stock nutplates are nothing but thin gauge extruded steel. The recall kit nutplates are heavy duty and will take serious stress and abuse. I've replaced all four nutplates on three of my SHOs, the two recent additions are next.:thumb:

I went to the squealer yesterday. They will "call me" back. They said they need to talk to their regional service manager. I gave them a copy of the NHTSA paperwork. I told them I can bring the Ford paperwork to them too... I'll give them til Thursday...

the do not replace the bushings only the hardware for the bushings. I just got home from having the recall done. I bought the bushings from ford for a total of $60 and they put them in. The handling is 10x better than what it was before

They just do the rears under the recall, which is why they have to drill holes in the floorboard. One kit does the rears and that's all you get from Ford. That is why most people also buy another kit and do the fronts on their own. Or some people pay Ford to do the fronts while the rears are being done under the recall.

The recall kits are only available from Ford or through SHONUT.
