How comfortable are you working on the car in general, and more important do you know your way around the airbag system?

The possibilities are;

1. Slipring
2. Clockspring
3. connection, ie excess resistance, short, open, or poor connection re any of these components
4. Diagnostic monitor

Are you also having problems with the horn and/or cruise control? The clockspring is the most common failure for the situation you describe.

The airbag has to be deactivated before any work is done on the system. Treat the airbag with respect. It can be very dangerous, and the danger should not be taken lightly.

If you want to try diagnosing the problem do a search regarding the airbag and the diagnostics. If you cannot find the diagnostics in the prior posts, or hav additional questions get back to us and we'll walk you through it.

I am a strong advocate of folks working on their own cars, but the airbag is dangerous enough that I am hesitant to aid anyone who is not competent, or is uncomfortable with this particular system. rangerj

This is for anybody in general. If your are going to be working on your air bag(s), make sure you disconnect the battery for at least 30 minutes before hand. This way the chances of it blowing up in your face are minimized.
