Mike,
If you are not an experienced mechanic I would NOT advise you to do anything involving the airbag.
If you want to try a few simple things, try the following;
If you have a service manual read the sections concerning the airbag. Pay CLOSE attention to the WARNINGS. Determine what tests you are capable of doing safely.
You can clean the connections at the impact sensors, and a few others, with the battery DISCONNECTED (for at least several minutes)before touching anything to do with the airbag.
The most common causes of the airbag light flashing are failed sensors or a bad connection at the sensors, and the clockspring connection failure (internal).
The clockspring is behind the airbag, and requires that the airbag be removed to get at it.
In doing any work involving the airbag there is no margine for error.
If accidentally deployed it can cause serious injuries, or death, and if you get lucky all you will have to do is replace it at about $1000.
In answer to your question, if you are not sure DON'T. rangerj
