I have noticed that my clutch ratcheting mechinism on my pedal may or may not be working.

I notice on occasions with a brande new rebuild of the tranny and a new clutch and pressure plate, 1st gear from time to time still grind ever so slightly when i re engage when at a stop light. Some times I put it into second to help synro it .... I dont think its the syncro either ... cause arent the syncro for 1st and second ?

Is there a manual way to get more of the clutch to disengage the pressure plate. I thought of pushing up the clutch pedal with a 4x4 and taking the cable off the fork of the transmission and re attach.

Any ideas or suggestions. The clutch engages near the very end of the travel of the pedal or in other words when the pedal is almost all the way back up.

I dont have any slippage. A trick taught to me is put the vehicle in the tallest gear and smash on the gas ..... if there is an issue the engine will begin to rev beyond the resistance of the clutch and pressure plate and this does not happen.

thanks all

some of the teeth on the mechanism maybe worn to nothing, so go on the trans side and see how much slack is in the cable, with the pedal all the way up, where end actually slides onto the trans fork, try to pull the cable at this point to see the amount of slack.

Also tug on the lever on the trans and see the slack when its in the rest position and in the start postion, meaning right as it hits the pressure plate, you should hear a clunk. If you have a lot of slack, the pedal needs to be adjusted, but check that first and then you can try some ways to get more out of the stretched cable or pedal.

A brand new clutch should be engaging right near the floor.
