adjustable thermostat???

why is there an adjusting screw on Motorcraft thermostat?

it's right on the top of it.

The thermostat will open up depending on how much you turn the screw. I tested it in some hot water on the stove this morning and it appears as the thermostat will still function properly. I figure it will let a small amount of water bypass the thermostat before the coolant heats up enough to make the thermostat open.

I screwed it all the way in this morning and put it back in the car. I'm going to drive it and see what happens. This Texas heat is unreal.
