My front strut rods have some pitting and I'm going to replace them while they are still available. The question is whether to go with the aftermarket adjustable ones, sold by SHOsource, Rockauto, etc., or the Ford OEM ones. Is there any disadvantage to the adjustable rods? Do they hold alignment once set?

Yeah, OEM.

I have some of the adjustable units that I bought new and were only ever temporarily installed in a subframe for a mockup. That's when I discovered the issue with the adjustment nuts, so I just put them away after that. I'm loathe to even sell them to get rid of them due to the nature of the failures with these things. They'll probably just be paperweights or dust collectors.

I'll order the OEM ones tomorrow. Local dealer wants $93 each ! I see they are around $60 online. Price seems to vary quite a bit depending upon area of the country and the warehouse they pull from. Gary, that thread you linked is an eye opener. Doug, you got a good price!

I have the adjustable ones, and they've been fine now for over a year. I've tracked with them, multiple canyon runs, and even some hard launches. No issues.

A junkyard is a good source for those. I think I have at least one or two OEM rods as a spare here (and sent some others to the recycler a while ago). If you want I can check my storage room the next time I'm there and see how many I have and their general condition. Since this is Arizona they're probably in good shape.

I ain't gonna use 'em, so I'm happy to find a loving home for them.
