Does anybody know if the Rally and Accel are the same coil? I would guess that they are the same coil with yellow jacket.

Can only be a hand full of Manufactures...Right?

My delima is do I go with a stock style coil or a free floating mustang with a strap accross the top?

My understanding is that the v8 SHO is Fords first COP design and they didn't settle with our style coil as the final design like some of thier other coil designs. I would imagine the two hold downs may stretch the coil back and forth as the engine heats up and coils down. I bet a free floating coil may last longer in the SHO vs the stock bolted down.

If that's the case, we could always try just fastening it down with one bolt...

Its just a thoery that the coil could have reduced life with heating and contracting. Being bolted down on both ends could exagerate the failure of the coil. I would think a free floating with a block off at the top would be the best policy...

I will be installing these tonight:

Here is a picture of the ignition boot you can purchase separate at rock auto. I was wrong on the price though, they are $2.89 per boot I think...

These are the Rally DG-478. With Lifetime Warranty!

Here is the final install pics. The car runs great. Night and Day difference in the idle quality and has also removed the lack of power hole in the 3000-4000 rpm range.

I used wire ties to guarantee that the coil doesn't go anywhere...

If you haven't installed new coils in awhile you might just want to think about it. The results may just show you how worn out your coils are.

What did you do to fasten the wire ties down? Did I see one fastened to one of the coil bolts?

I only used one out of two mounting holes. Plus once installed, the boots I bought would hold the coil in the hole alone. They fit very tight and snug.

OK, I think I want to try this.

Could you please PM to me the parts numbers you have used and the links to firms you have ordered from?

She is just about to her 200k birthday, and I think I will give her new pocs as well as new plugs as part of the 200k do everything list.

I am currently running the ebay coils in my sho also.....without a problem. I kept my old ones just incase I did need them but so far no problems. and considering the car has well over 100k on it I am sure it was time for a tune up. Mileage has picked up and lost that noticable miss that I had also.
how easy is bit to swap the cop's and plugs on the V8 SHO ? I have big hands...

Very easy for the front. Rears are a pain as the upper intake and surge tank must come off to get to them. The process is pretty painless except for the rear brace mounting bolts holding the surge tank to the head. Getting any size hands back there is not easy. Do it enough times it gets easier though... ;)

Actually, for the first time in many years I will have mine licensed and in use going into winter. My son, Scott, and his partner Caity, are staying at our place when getting buying a boat and getting it organized for living on, so we fine ourselves in need of the ability to move 4 adults and a good sized dog about on occasion. I just re-licensed the SHO to make that simpler. We can manage it in the truck, but not comfortably. Its a small truck. The SHO, though, does it with easy breathing room for everyone. And having been driving it more than I had in some time, I find myself really enjoying it again. For its age, its a really nice sports sedan.
