I just changed out a bad ac pulley bearing. Got a new bearing from an aftermarket parts place and pressed it in. Now I'm having trouble with ac clutch. There is a small woodruff key that fits into a slot cut into the clutch and ac spindle. The problem is it appears too short, its only half an inch and it doesn't lock the clutch to the compressor. Maybe it broke? I checked with the dealer and they don't have a part number for it. They ordered a new clutch thinking it might be included. Anyone ever order the key?

The key is pretty small. Changing my compressor clutch and hub at the convention forced me to get help from someone with much smaller fingers to place it in its seat on the compressor shaft.

I was able to seat the key on the compressor shaft but when I put the clutch in place the key slid back further down the shaft, not even portruding at all.

I'll know tomorrow if a new key can be ordered. I was also thinking about grinding a new key out of some stock.

Lol, well its some sort of key.

I'm having more problems than the key though, I think my shaft is messed up because I can't get the new clutch to slide on at all. I guess the only thing to do is take the compressor off and check it out.

Marcel you're right, the key is fine. I poked around some more and found pieces of the coil lodged in the same area. Apparently it broke when the bearings seized up. Stangeater, maybe you might find some broken pieces binding up the clutch?

Heading out for a new coil this time...
