Why do you make that assumption?

Did anyone use a feeler gauge and measure the clutch gap? Should be posted on the forum somewhere how to do this yourself. Eliminate the most common problems before you start throwing parts at it.

There is always the chance it's the compressor.. but that would be last since it's the most expensive to replace.

Why not replace the thing that has a high probability of being it? The football has caused many problems and many peoples cars.

One of the AC in line switches could be failing. IMHO if the football was bad it would be terminal and not sporadic.

The ICP only tells the PCM to to apply the clutch. The AC inline cycling switch closes at 45 psi and opens at 23.5 psi to control the clutch via the PCM through the inline high pressure switch which is normally closed and control cycle the clutch, they open at 415-445 psi to turn off the clutch, close again at 220-280 psi to turn on the clutch. There is around a 20 second delay when the switch opens to avoid rapid cycling. This is controlled by the SSTR in the CCRM.

There is a second set of contacts on the high pressure switch that are normally open and close at 285-315 psi to to turn on the high speed fan. This is all fed through the CCRM and the AC clutch control relay and on the the clutch.

There have been problems with the football but it's not that common and certainly not one of the top 5 reasons for AC to stop working or to cycle sporadically. Ref. charge then clutch gap are the big 2.

Why not just try the ABSOLUTELY FREE broomstick test first instead of spending a second or a penny on something else that has given no indication that it has a problem??? :nut:

Intermittent failures do to the widened clutch gap are about 1000 times more common than an ICP failure. :shakehead

Well.. don't you have to get under your car for the broomstick thing? I would rather spend $20 with an easy swap of the head unit instead of spending 20 minutes jacking my car up in 100 degree weather :p

With that kind of logic, you should probably consider another car. :nut:

Do you think you can handle opening the hood? Because that's all you need to do; there is no need to jack up the car. Search the forum for A/C broom and you should find everything you need to know.
