Just a quick question which I'm sure most of you know.

I read the article on v8SHO.com about AC recharges.

It won't be refilled with Freon, correct, but actually "Suva"? I want to make sure this is right when I get my AC recharged this week.

Also, my clutch seems to be turning off and on.. A LOT in the city driving. I usually can get the compressor to stay on while staying under 2500-3400 RPM.. but right at 3400 when the secondaries would normally open (mine are gone).. it turns it off for more power apparently.

Is that normal? I can't stand no having AC with our damn Kansas weather... 100 degrees and up the last three days with 30 percent humidity.. HORRIBLE!

Would a simple evacuate and recharge of the "suva" fix this??

Thanks,
~Nick

"Suva" - huh. Don't recognize that term.

It is called "R 134a" refrigerant.

"Freon" is kind of like saying "Xerox" when you mean "Photo copy". It is a brand name belonging to DuPont. It refers to a type of refrigerant.

That said, yes - the cycling you describe is a common symptom of being under-charged in the refrigerant circuit.

Okay, cool.

Well, as I said, on v8SHO.com, the guy who wrote the post said it was nicknamed "Suva"... so I didn't know if you all knew it by that or it's actual name or not.

Thanks E1 v2.

Well, the compressor is still turning off and on quite alot. When I started my car this morning cold, it turned off and on about 8 times in the first minute or so..

This isn't normal is it?

I just got it regarded yesterday and it's blowing cool 100% of the time.. it just seems to turn off and on a lot.

Not sure what the clutch gap is... is that thing with the broom?

Sounds like the pressure is still low or the cycling switch is bad.

The clutch gap thing usually will not cycle as it stops pulling in.

Damn, I don't have any of those tools / guages. When I got the car back yesterday, it seems like they went through all of these steps as the Max AC was on when I turned the car on.

Should I just bring it back and have them check the pressure?

If you took it to them because it's cycling to frequently and it still is after they worked on it then I would say they didn't get the problem fixed. Either ask them to do the job or ask for a refund and go somewhere else.

Can you send me the link where you found that? I just did a quick check of the A/C links and didn't see it. Doesn't mean it's not there, but I did not find that. I'd like to correct that.
TIA

Well, I took it to them because the A/C was going in and out.. but now that I got it changed, it seems as if it's cycling WAY faster than before...

So, I will probably just take it back in to them to check it out.

I just got my car back and they said that the ball bearing that holds the refrigerant in was either stuck open or broken. They recharged it again and stuck some die in as well. Hopefully the ball bearing was just stuck.

If it stops working again, I'll know what the problem was.

FWIW: The compressor has stopped turning on and off all the time. So, the compressor was turning on and off rapidly because it was leaking refrigerant and therefor had low pressure.

Okay, a new problem arises, maybe.

I was going to the store today and the AC was working fine, blowing out a strong currently of really cold air.

When I arrived at the store, I turned my car off. When I came back, turned the car on, but the AC Comp. did not decide to come on, at all. About 5 miles down the road, after it being off and just decided to turn it back on to see what happened, the Comp. turned on.

Now, is this the clutch gap issue?

Okay, I talked with the guy who was putting in the "freon" in my car and he said the second time I brought it in, the pressures were right on in the compressor. There was only minor leaking at the check valve.

So, that leaves me to believe that the problem lays with the electronics.. IE .. the damn football.

I have bought another football for $20.. so once it gets here, I will see if that fixes the problem.
