The sensor should slide out. However, they usually are rusted in place and it is very difficult to remove it without destroting it. Try using a penetrating oil, such as PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench, and soak the sensor. You may get lucky and be able to work it loose without breaking it. When you put the sensor back in apply either silicone grease or anti-sieze compound so that if it ever has to be removed again it will come out much easier.
