I used my A/C to try warm up but it only blows cold air. Irregardless of whatever temp I set it. It still blows cold air. I always have my auto temp set at 72ºF. Since it is cooler today I had it up to 75ºF but still blows cold air. Then 80ºF, then 85ºF and then 90ºF. Whatever direction it blows to it still blows cold air.

Refrigerant Low? Compressor dying?

What's wrong with it? Who can describe to me where the A/C compressor is at?

Chilled,

For me, it's on the left side when looking directly at the engine. It's the front most component. If I'm wrong, there should be a belt diagram on your hood which will tell you where it is. If you look at the pulley, there is this triangular looking thing with 3 points on it which starts spinning as you turn the ac on. I'm fairly new to cars, but if your air system is blowing cold air regarless, the compressor would be teh last thing I would look at. I would probably be concerned about it if it wasn't blowing any air or only hot air.

PS, I saw your sig, and I thought the sho takes Premium gas?

I'm going to take a look this AM.

It says on the instrument panel "Premium Unleaded Fuel Recommended". My SHO runs great with REGULAR unleaded, no pings or hesitation. We do have real gasoline here in Michigan. burn_out

Souns to me more like something is wrong in the relay system that switches you over to the heater core, or one of the sensors that does that, or in the climate control system where the requested temp is taken. But I doubt it is the compressor or any part of the air conditioner itself, which sounds to be working just fine, even if not when when wanted.

You might want to try some 93 oc. at the track. You won't get knocking or detonation with 87 because the engine is equipped with a knock sensor that will back off your timing to prevent detonation. The higher the octane, the further you timing will advance increasing both power and fuel economy.

I don't have knocking problems with my SHO. She runs very good on the regular unleaded gas. Fuel economy? I go 18-19 mpg in City driving and 24- 25 mpg highway. I don't think I have a problem with my car knocking. MY problem is it doesn't blow WARM air. shoot

It might be that the blend door is stuck, not mixing the warm air with the cool. What I was saying about the octane is that you won't get knocking with lower octane but still are losing performance due to ******** timing. Higher octane will let the timing advance for more power.

The compressor is just to the left of the oil dipstick in the front. Put the heater contol on vent or floor, the temp at 90F and see if the heat comes out in the correct place. If not
EATC Self Test

1. Perform the EATC Functional Test. Record all error codes displayed during the test.

2. The control assembly will detect electrical malfunctions occurring during the self test.

3. Ensure engine is warm (at least 49°C (120°F) coolant temperature). To display the error codes for the malfunction detected, initiate the self test by pushing OFF and FLOOR simultaneously and then AUTOMATIC within two seconds. The test may run as long as 20 seconds, during which time the display will be blank. If the display is blank for more than 20 seconds, go to System Diagnosis When Self-Test and Functional Test indicate NO ERROR.

4. The Self Test can be initiated at any time with the resulting error codes being displayed. Normal operation of the system stops when Self Test is activated. To exit self-test and restart the system, push the blue button. Self Test should be deactivated before turning off the system. Refer to the Error Code Key in the following chart for an explanation of error codes.

5. If error codes appear during the EATC Functional Test, follow the diagnosis procedures outlined in the Error Code Key for each error code recorded.

6. If a malfunction exists but no error code appears during the test in Step 1, refer to Diagnosis When Self-Test Indicates No Error Found.
Timing is at full advance per program unless pinging is heard then it is retared. I have never heard my '97 ping and run 87 all the time. Last week at Lapeer I was running 87 octane with 10% ethanol and got my best times ever.

I found the compressor when I was looking at the Chilton's Manual earlier. It is clicking and working. I drove around for 15 minutes and then left it in park idling. I didn't do any test though.

I will do that tomorrow.
