on my 97 it runs flawlessly except when I turn on the air conditioning it feels like a low idle misfire and hickups, but when I turn off the air conditioning it runs perfectly again. I'm out of ideas. anybody run into this problem before?

I would ask if you have gotten gas lately from anywhere that didn't seem 'top-notch' but it doesn't sound like bad gas if it's only doing that for the a/c. Do the symptoms occur when anything else is used? Like: Headlights/radio/power seats or windows?

When the gap gets to be too large on the clutch it will draw more amps which equals more load on the alternator. It will also end up burning up the clutch coil.
