A/C Compressor line Question

93 ATX, I've had a Freon leak since I've owned the car, and have finally found where the leak is coming from which is the shaft and top manifold port on the compressor. I have reman. compressor I'm going to install and I know both compressor manifold lines are obsolete, and mine seem to be in decent condition, but the O-rings are trashed. I was wondering are there special O-rings for the compressor port lines or just use the O-rings that come in the kit?? The ones that are up there are green and flat, and seem to lodge in there pretty good.

The o rings that came with your new compressor should work fine.

they are flat because they have taken a set (deformed permanently) from being smashed in the groove for years. They were round originally, and they are likely to leak because they are now rectangular in cross section rather than round. If you didn't get new ones w/ the compressor, the parts store will have them, although you may need to buy a whole kit of o-rings to get the ones you need.

I don't think my compressor came with O-rings, but I'll check. I did buy a O-ring kit. Just didn't know if there was a special flat o-ring. That makes sense, thanks for the help.

I Finally got around to installing the compressor and I can't seem to get the manifold lines to the compressor to seal. I tried the O-rings that came with the compressor, then tried some that I bought in a kit. Are the O-rings suppose to sit out a little further to seal up against the compressor? The O-rings seems to be recessed pretty well in the grove.

no, they definitely need to stick up past the face of the mounting surface so that the manifold compresses them when it is tightened. the ones I've used seemed to be a little too large of OD and I had to work them down into the groove, but once in there, they seal great.

That's what I was thinking, I couldn't imagine o-ring not sticking out far enough and being effective in sealing. I'm wondering now where should i go for a o-ring that will come out far enough to mate with the compressor to seal?

Go to any Ford Dealership. The one I work at keeps all that stuff in stock. There are only 2 or 3 different options when it comes to the O-rings.

I stand corrected. I'm going thru the exact same situation and if you haven't already found the correct orings, I'm about to post a thread with the correct numbers.
