I did it about a week ago.
You do not need to discharge the system.
It took about 4 hours for me.

- remove the battery and tray
- Loose the belt, remove tensioner pulley, remove the belt.
- Remove all wiring from the alt, remove 3 bolts, remove alt.
- Remove the expansion coolant tank
- lock the clutch with 5 mm allen wrench, remove 12 mm center bolt (a trick)
- unbolt the compressor and pull it up-left
- remove the retainer ring, remove the bypass pulley
- remove larger ring, remove the coil

- assembling is performed in an opposite sequence

if smb explain me how to attach the pics, I will give some

I had to grind down the socket to get proper clearance to use a ratchet on the retaining nut. I didn't have to unbolt the compressor.

It sounds like you've already got the nut off. If I remember correctly, you need to use 2 screwdrivers (one on each side, in the gap) and just rock it off, alternately prying with each screwdriver.

If you're trying to lock the clutch in place to take the nut off, I'm not sure exactly how I did it but I may have used the old belt around the pulley and twisted it tight to hold the pulley from turning. There's also a snap ring holding the pulley on after you remove the clutch.

It's been several years since I've done this and I AM getting older, so......

Auto Zone will rent a puller that screws into the hub with a bolt in the middle to push on the shaft. To use it with out pulling the compressor, you will need to cut one end off or cut a small hole in your inner fender to get to it.
