I am a new SHO owner. I bought a 97 SHO (cams welded ) and needs new tires. I drive 70 miles a day, mostly hwy so I need tires with good tread life but dont want to get passenger tires. I still want to have fun. What are some good suggestions from people who have owned these cars.

PS. In the future this car will be parked and completely performane upgraded. I love the idea of a family sleeper. I am 44 yrs old but still a kid. The only differance is now I can afford to do it.:naughty: When this happens I will keep everyone up to speed.

I highly recommend these depending on your budget. I am very pleased with them both performance wise, and aesthetically. They are pricey but I would say they are the best all-season performance tire for this car. Oh yeah, I do a ton of highway driving as well and they are extremely quiet too.

Otherwise I would reccomend BF Goodrich G-Forces. Very stiff sidewalls with a sportier feel. Good Luck!

I have been running the same set of BF Goodrich Traction T/A's for nearly 4 years now, just rotated them (again) a couple of weeks ago. They are a good performance tire (IMO) but have a very stiff sidewall, you feel a lot of the road with these tires, excellent wet traction also. Teadwear is something like 440, with a "AA" traction rating. Personally, my next set will probably be a touring tire, BFG Touring T/A Pro Series, Treadwear 500 and a "A" traction rating. I am 42, I like performance also, but I don't really need performance tires on this car because I don't drive it all that hard, although my Traction T/A's are starting to look a little thin now ever since the tranny rebuild, this car spins 'em with ease now.

I had BFG Traction T/A's Loved them.

I have Kumho Ecsta ASX 225/55/R16's now. They are pretty good in dry and wet traction.

Im riding on Traction T/A's as well.

As noted, excellent treadwear, great wet traction, and damn sticky for an "all season".

Just dont expect them to do any good on ice or snow. Seriously, I might as well put ice skates on the SHO :nut:

My T/A's felt like I was in 4wd. They did really good for me. Maybe you experienced more snow in Idaho than I had to deal with

Thanks alot for the replies and sorry for the misspelled words, should have used spell check. Has anyone used the Yokohama AVID Touring or the Falken ZE-512`s. I know they are in different classes but both have good revews for the price. When I build the car for pleasure only, I will get what performs best!

We probably do. Well over 10 FEET this year....

But actual amount of snow is really of no importance. Once you get enough, roads are solid hard-pack snow and ice around here. Once we got to that point, the SHO was parked for the winter.

Honestly, I dont understand HOW you could have a good experience with the Traction T/As in snow. They were so slick on my '89 that I could barely get out of the driveway with less than 3 inches of fresh snow on the ground. :nut:

Nitto EP 450s. I'm on my 4th set. Excellent tire for all but road racing. Surprisingly good in the snow. And will last 40 k or so.

I have Yoko's on, but not the particular model you are talking about. The ones I have on have seemed very good in wet to me, and pretty good on dry. I think my previous Bridgestone 960s were better in dry.

For an economical tire I don't think you can go wrong with the Kumho 711's. The only "bad" part is you can't get them in 225/55 you have to settle for 225/50. We've probably got a couple dozen customers who have bought them on our recommendation and never heard a complaint. The SPT is also another good choice.

For a premium tire, I was very very pleased with the Michelin Pilot Primacy's. I also ran Goodyear Eagle F1's, and they were the loudest tires I've ever owned and sucked ass in the rain.

The customers we have with Falkens are about 50/50 split on them, some like them, some hate them. Common complaint is they are loud.

Yokos in general people seem pretty satisfied with.

BFG's I've personally had back luck with (tread separation) as have other SHO owners. The KDWS's I had rode and handled very nicely until the treads started coming off.

I know I am not talking about a SHO here, but we just put a set of Yokohama AVID V4s on my wife's '05 Saab 9-2X (similar to a Subaru Impreza wagon).

So far, the tires seem excellent. They were not all that expensive and the reviews seem to be pretty good overall.

I recently retired my BFG's with just over 30,000 agressive miles on them. They were a very good tire but as they aged I noticed an unusually high ammount of road noise from them and they were wearing unevenly despite having the car alighned and making normal rotations. As well cracking/weathering of the side walls despite normal maintance with a tireshine.

I was going to pick up another set until reading a few reviews and speaking with a few people I know that use Bridgstone Potenza G 009's. I picked up a set from the tire rack for just over 450 shipped and after having them a couple of weeks I can say I'm very happy with them. Snow traction is very good and while I cant comment on wet or dry traction yet I think they will do the job very well. The few times I have tromped on it on the somewhat dry roads I have been impressed with the way they stick to the ground in the cold, even compared to the BFG's when they were new.The only draw back is that they are a directional tire so rotating is limited. Road noise is very minimal and they seem to clean out very well both in light and heavy snow.

Here is the link to them at the tire rack. I stuck with a lower performance rating because I a) don't drive super fast b) was looking for some increased comfort on longer road trips.

Just thought I would pass on my 2 cents.

X 2 about the T/A's

Mine made a great deal of road noise towards the end of their life, and also cracked on the sidewalls.

The Kumho SPT's replaced the 711's, which are no longer being made.

I have over 40,000 miles on my Traction T/A's, I rotate them every 5,000 miles or so (when I feel like it). Snow??? If it snowed here, I would just drive my wife's 4x4 Expedition and leave the SHO in the garage. But I dunno, after seeing the videos of SHOs in Snow it looked kind of fun.
