I am sure this has been asked before, but I don't have the time to search for the answers on this forum, so cut me a little slack please.

ok...I am sick of the front brakes...the rotors are warped and the pads are making alot of noise. Instead of wasting my time with the stock setup, I was thinking I would like to do the 96 brake upgrade. So, what I need is a little run down on how this is done, what parts are required and an approximate cost from people who have had this work done.

Thanks for looking

There is a parts list and procedure on the shotimes faq. TCE (banner ad above) sells complete kits with upgraded components.

I just ordered mine from SHONUTperformance. Cost me 302.XX for the two new calipers, 2 new rotors, with stock Ford pads and new brake fluid. I could of gotten the fancy track pads for an additional 42 bucks.
If you go to their page, look under brakes, top 3 items.

Anthony, you already have the larger spindles so the upgrade, depending on your wheel size, is easier. Teg, not sure about what year SHO you're running but wheel size is also a factor as far as larger aftermarket brake kits are concerned.

Sorry guys, I guess a little info on the car would be good, eh?

1994 ATX. Completely stock, with 130k on it.

The rotors and pads are about 2500miles old, but are completely screwed.

The car needs other things, so I am kinda prioritizing. But the TCE upgrade looks interesting. I can't afford to go to larger wheels, but would like something that is cross drilled and maybe a bit bigger.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I just did this last month after completing the full blown 100k tune-up. After looking at the prices of the dozens of options, I decided to go with the basics for less than $200. This included the ford brackets from fordpartsonline for $37 each, the cheaper Autozone rotors for $25 each, and a set of the 598 size Raybestos carbon metallic pads for $65. I would have put on the PFC carbon pads, but they only come in the 601 size, which will work but leaves a 1/4" of unswept area on the outer edge of the rotor.

I see recently that AZ has increased the price of their 96 rotors to $35 each, which is still cheap. Everything looks great and the car stops significantly better than the old warped OEM stuff I pulled off.

I wouldn't recommend x-drilled or slotted rotors unless you are autocrossing your SHO. I've gotten a lot of feedback here on the forum that they will be of little, if any advantage over standard rotors for street applications, and will likely fail sooner and eat your pads faster. Save your money unless you just have to have that x-drilled look.

Did upgrade on my 95 mtx. Used NAPA carbon ceramic pads. NO DUST plus a better waranty than all the rest. Used NAPA's stock 96 roters ( the better ones. You must use these pads on all 4 corners.

FWIW, Autozone lists a loaded caliper pair set with brackets for the 95 Conti. This DOES NOT fit. It is just a 95 caliper/pad/bracket setup!!!
