I keep seeing in signatures folks are swapping rear calipers from Series 1 cars? What is the benefit from this? I have to do something with mine as my parking brake will not work and I have a 2yr old who likes to drive LOL and NEED parking brakes! I think my calipers are not working correctly cables are all free and pads are new.

Thanks!

The gen1 cars use a vented rear rotor and the gen2s use a solid rotor. It's a common mod to swap in the vented rotors but you need gen1 calipers in order to fit the now wider rotor.

the backing plate that bolts between the spindle and caliper bracket is different. the holes are a different distance apart between the 2 systems, so the calipers/brackets won't interchange. to keep the wheel placement the same the hubs are a different height. that also affects the centering of the rotor in the caliper bracket.
that means everyting except the spindle needs swapped:

pads, caliper, caliper bracket, rotor, mounting plate, and hub/bearing.

89 rear spindles are different due to the 2 roller bearings.

I'll edit to state this applies if you want 10" vented rear rotors.
If you want to go with 11.6" vented in the rear get the kit from Shosource.

Do the parts have to come from a G1 SHO or any taurus?

Plus 1992!

The 1992s (two of those in our family) also have the Gen I type vented rear rotor.
